President Nana Akufo-Addo per Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution today delivers his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) to Parliament.
The state of the Nation Address is constitutionally established to enable the president to account and communicate plans for the country.
However, the Minority, National Democratic Congress (NDC) in black attire in a protest boycotted the 2020 State of the Nation Address due to the government’s failure to issue five percent of the District Assemblies’ Common Fund.
The President in an amusing manner stated the NPP would take over all empty seats in Parliament amidst laughter in Parliament.
Some issues raised by the President include urging the police to address the negative public perception about their reputation while the government provides modern facilities and training to ensure better policing, prisoners having opportunities with 376 inmates passing various exams in Junior and Senior High School.
The President mentioned the successful Year of Return event in 2019 and a positive look at the Year of Beyond starting from 2020 and also mentioning Ghana as having the largest medical drone delivery service in the world, the government’s commitment to restore dignity of the teaching profession, the distribution of modern ambulances, 5000 farmers being biometrically registered among other intriguing matters of concern.
