The National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ghana’s largest opposition party, will later today, launch its manifesto ahead of the 2020 general elections.

The launch which was postponed from the initial September 1 date by the NDC’s Functional Executive Committee.

According to the party, the postponement of the event was to enable its National Executive Committee and Council of Elders to collectively approve the policy principles and strategies promised in the manifesto.

After the NDC’s unsuccessful attempt to win the 2016 general elections under the theme, Changing Lives, Transforming Ghana, the party looks forward to wining the hearts of Ghanaians this time as it launches its policy document. The party has stated earlier that their manifesto will be people centred and capture the actual needs of the Ghanaian people.

In the run up to the launch, Flagbearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama, says the NDC will transform Ghana into an advanced nation should the party win the December 2020 polls.

“It is our sacred mission to turn Ghana into an advanced nation as soon as possible! It is our moral obligation to be bold and to aim for greatness!” he said.

While delivering a speech on Sunday night, the Former President said the current challenges in Ghana calls for the “formulation of new policies and standards” which the party intends to undertake should it be given the nod on December 7.

“Good enough’ is no longer good enough! To prosper and thrive, we need a fundamental change! We need to set our standards and expectations far higher than “good enough”! If we settle for “good enough”, we settle for slow death of our very soul and of our pride.”

Mr Mahama further stressed that his decision to run for a second term was in order to fix these challenges.

“In all honesty, I didn’t take the decision to run for a second term as President neither easily, nor quickly. I didn’t jump into it. I did it out of a sense of urgency after I began to contemplate more and more thoroughly about our vulnerabilities as a nation.”

Meanwhile, the flagbearer is campaigning for the support of the Ghanaian people on the lines of providing free health care services, creating one million jobs for the unemployed masses and legalizing motorbikes (okada) for commercial use.
