GHANA- Wednesday, August 5, 2020/– The flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress says, if voted into power, his government will pay Assembly Members across the country. He made this statement while addressing a meeting with the Ghana Association of Assembly Members in his office in Accra.
The former President also pledged that the next NDC administration will work closely with them to deepen their role in governance.
He also mentioned that the next NDC administration will provide training programmes which will help build the capacity of assembly members as well as pay them monthly allowances to encourage them to do more for their countries.
He said the allowances will be paid with the savings his government will make by drastically cutting down the number of ministers in his next administration in 2021.
The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Hajia Alima Mahama has however, urged Assembly Members across the country to ignore the promises of former President John Mahama to pay them monthly allowances if voted into power in the coming December polls.
Hajia Alima says, the claims made by Mr Mahama are empty promises which cannot be fulfilled.
According to the Minister, the Akuffo-Addo government is working on allocating a portion of the District Assembly Common Fund to assembly members to undertake developmental projects in their respective areas. She made these comments at a sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of the Nsukwao Brain Drainage System in Koforidua.
“Coming on, we will ensure that we all realize some resources for development projects in their various electoral areas and it will be coming from the Common Fund. Within the Common Fund formula, we will ensure that some sum is put for you to pursue development in your various electoral areas,” she said.
