During my yearly medical check-up with my doctor, he noticed that I was slightly dehydrated and in effect had dull skin.
He questioned how much water I take in a day. I told him three bottles (500ml) a day. I was astonished when he claimed that that wasn’t enough and recommended six bottles a day.
Six bottles of water mean constant use of the washroom. However, I hated the fact that I was dehydrated and with dull skin. I love healthy, smooth and glowing skin and would do any reasonable thing within my means to have that. I decided then that it wouldn’t hurt to heed his advice. Not ready for any excuse I pasted reminders all over the house and in the office; “drink as much water as you can” and “discipline is expensive but it pays.”
I decided to challenge myself with the six bottles of water a day. I bought boxes of bottled water and was drinking a full bottle almost every one and a half hours from morning to evening.
On the third day of my challenge, I noticed my urine was less yellow and clearer. I was more active and alert and ate less food since all the time water was filling my stomach.
After one week, my dry skin stopped, dry lips went away, and even my headaches had stopped! Wow! What a miracle.
In reality, I also noticed that my skin changed from dull to healthy smooth within one week. I was thrilled! Within a month, my skin was glowing and fresh. When friends inquired about the cream I was using, I smiled and replied… water.
Water and our survival
Water makes up more than two-thirds of human body weight, and without water, we would die in a few days. A person can live without food longer than they can live without water. It is not without reason that the key organs in the human being consist of a lot of water. During fasts, it is helpful to drink some water.
This serves to lubricate the system as the body goes through the cleansing process of fasting, Water also serves as a lubricant in digestion, promotes salivation which facilitates chewing and swallowing. Water also lubricates our joints and cartilages for easy movement. It nourishes the skin – skin cells, like any other cells in the body, are made up of water. Without water, organs will certainly not function properly or at their best.
Water and detoxification
Water helps our bodies remove toxins through urination and perspiration. Water helps reduce constipation. Drinking enough water will also lessen the burden on the kidneys and liver by flushing out waste products.
How much water is enough water
We’ve all heard that drinking water will help keep us healthy. But how much is really enough? The experts say that on average, eight-ounce glasses per day will suffice. However, that might not be enough. While eight is great, amounts really need to be tailored to meet the needs of every individual. When in doubt, seek counsel from your doctor.
We often take the importance of water to our bodies for granted. Drinking water should always be a priority. Remember, it is also never too late to improve your health with the help of regular exercise, balanced nutrition and a positive outlook on life. The human body is very resilient and if you treat yourself well, you will be surprised by your body’s own natural ability to heal itself.
If you want beautiful skin, make water your priority.
