The minority in Government wants WAEC to cancel all leaked WASSCE papers

The minority in government is calling for the cancellation of leaked examination papers in this year’s West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations (WASSCE).

This call was in a statement released by Dr Clement Apaak, Member of Parliament for Builsa South and Deputy Ranking Member, Committee on Education.

This comes on the back of alleged leaking of the Integrated Science, Core Mathematics and Chemistry practical papers.
The call was also made due to the leakage of a list of examiners that have gone viral.

The list contains details of the examiners such as their schools, subject areas, telephone numbers, and email addresses.
In light of this, the minority holds that “the leakages and publications of details of examiners defeat the purpose of a fair assessment system that WAEC is supposed to ensure. It undermines the integrity of the examinations, the integrity of WAEC, and dents the image of Ghana before the International community”.

Dr. Clement Apaak has accused WAEC of delaying cancellation of the said papers and urged them to do so immediately.
“WAEC, as a matter of urgency, must cancel the leaked and suspected leaked papers as it has done in the past. It is worrying that a body that swiftly acted to cancel papers in the past on suspicion of leakage, is reluctant in acting in a similar manner when overwhelming evidence of the leaked papers abound”.

It further called on the examination body to punish offenders who facilitated both leakages.
“WAEC must also investigate the sources of the leakage of papers and the contact details of examiners, and hold to account the perpetrators of these crimes. WAEC must also ensure the safety of the remaining papers to avert the embarrassing situations we have witnessed the past few days”, as contained in the statement.

Meanwhile, president of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has condemned the act and called on the government to set up an independent investigation body to look into the matter and bring the offenders to book.
