2 min read

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced that markets in the capital would be closed on March 23 for disinfection as part of precautionary measures to contain the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country.

The one-day closure is to enable the Assembly to disinfect all markets and other public places.

The AMA statement, however, assured that the markets would reopen the next day March 23 for normal business.

“In-line with the President’s directive on measures to contain and prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) with support from the Greater Accra Markets Association wishes to inform the general public that there will be a massive disinfection exercise across all public market centres within its jurisdiction,” the statement said.

“Towards this end, the markets will be closed down on 23rd March 2020 and reopen the next day for normal business to continue. The rationale behind the closure is to enable the Assembly to disinfect all the markets and other public places. This forms part of precautionary measures by the Assembly to curb the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19)”.
