GHANA- Thursday, August 6, 2020/– Amidst uproars that have characterized the 2020 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in Ghana, Educationist Divine Kpe has called for an investigation into allegations of examination malpractice.
His comments come on the back of a viral video on social media showing students of Tweneboah Koduah Senior High School threatening to boycott the examination over what they termed as “strict supervision”.
The students took to the District Chief Executive; Samuel Addai Agyekum to register their displeasure towards their head teacher, Mr. Francis Awuah maltreated some students and teachers during the examination.
After the integrated paper written on Monday, August 3, 2020 students’ destroyed tables and chairs in the dining hall and refused food served them.
It is in wake of this and speaking to Univers news that educationist Divine Kpe has called for investigations into acts of malpractice.
He said that, “some of the cases that we’ve heard regarding malpractices, teachers dictating exams to students, need to be investigated because it casts an assertion on the sanctity of the exams”.
He further called for a possible review of examination questions set for students. “If we can’t trust that our students will be entering tertiary institutions with credible results, then we need to take a look at the papers they are writing.
Meanwhile, The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) has added their voice to the uproar and condemned the act.
Speaking on Atinka fm, General Secretary for CHASS, Kwame Owusu Oduomi said that “the WASSCE questions are not exclusive to lessons learnt or taken in the final year. This should tell you that questions will come from all levels and so there is the need to prepare towards that. Their actions should be condemned”.
I am passionate about pushing accountability and transparency through my writing.
