President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said that all final year senior high and junior high schools would receive one meal from the government every day.
The president closed down schools in March this year when the nation recorded its first coronavirus case. Final year senior high schools and junior high schools were however asked to return to write their exit examinations; West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations and Basic Education Certificate Examinations respectively.
The President said that measures have been taken against the spread of coronavirus in his 15th nationwide address on covid-19. He added that the idea complied with safety protocols imposed on the students following the resumption of schools.
“As a result of reports I have recently received that some final year JHS students were going hungry, in complying with COVID-19 protocols, I have just instructed the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection to begin preparations to ensure that, as from 24th August up to 18th September, all five hundred and eighty-four thousand (584,000) final year JHS students, and one hundred and forty-six thousand (146,000) staff, both in public and private schools, be given one hot meal a day. This is to ensure full observance of the COVID-19 safety protocols”, he said.
As part of the protocols that students were asked to observe upon their return, they are allowed no visits from outsiders.
I am passionate about pushing accountability and transparency through my writing.
