Accra, Ghana- Tuesday, July 7, 2020/ https://africanpostonline.com/ The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) a Ghanaian government institution that fixes the buying price for cocoa in Ghana has temporarily closed down its Accra offices as staff test positive for Covid-19.
According to a press statement signed by the Chief Executive Officer, Honourable Boahen Aidoo, COCOBOD undertook mass testing resulting in some staff testing positive.
The closure will take effect from 8th to 10th July 2020 for fumigation, and contract Tracy is ongoing with some staff self- isolating.
According to the CEO, work will continue as usual without destruction, and the public can contact them via their online portal as staff have been equipped to work from home.
The cocoa industry employs approximately 800,000 farm families and generates about $2 billion in foreign exchange annually and is a major contributor to Government Revenue and GDP.
Apart from the Ghana Cocoa Board having to close down due to the effect of covid- 19, a fish-processing factory in Tema was also closed down in May but later reopened after 533 workers at the facility were infected with the virus.
The Coronavirus pandemic is having a significant adverse impact on the economy of Ghana, and Ghanaians are trying their best to restructure and boost the economy after covid-19.
