GHANA- The Minister of Information, Hon. Oppong Nkrumah has indicated that Ghana will host the mid-year statutory meetings of ECOWAS.
The ECOWAS statutory meetings will be held from Tuesday 15th June to Saturday 19th June 2021.
“Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchway and her team have been working towards ensuring a successful summit.” Hon. Oppong Nkrumah stated.
Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchway gave an update on the summit this morning and also touched on how Ghana will leverage her seat on the UN Security Council to boost the West African security agenda.
She added that the sessions will deliberate on important Regional matters especially on recent political and security development that has threatened the peace and stability of the Region, ECOWAS vision 2020, institutional reforms, the status of tax assigned by the 85th Sessions of the Council of Ministers, ECOWAS African Research and Innovation Forum, and humanitarian matters amongst others.
Ghana was elected by the U.N. General Assembly together with the United Arab Emirates, Albania, Brazil, and Gabon to the United Nations Security Council with their two-year term starting on Jan. 1, 2022.
