Accra, Ghana – Friday, July 3, 2020,/ https://africanpostonline.com/ Covid 19 has claimed the life of another experienced and renowned physician in Ghana. Dr Richard Kisser was a Consultant Surgeon at the Trust Hospital, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, and Koforidua Regional Hospital.
Dr Richard Kisser was receiving treatment at the University of Ghana Medical Centre at Legon but succumb to the virus.
The Ghana Medical Association has expressed sadness, and in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Dr Ernest Yorke, the Chairman of the Greater Accra Division of the GMA said: “We learned with sadness the passing of Dr Richard Kisser on Thursday, July 2, 2020, at the UGMC. He was a proud member of the Greater Accra Division and contributed his part to the activities of the GMA.
“He will be remembered as a fine doctor by his patients and also for training many doctors and specialists.
“Our hearts are with the wife, children and the family for their untimely loss. The Greater Accra GMA has, indeed, lost a valued member. May his soul rest in perfect peace”.
According to the GMA about 120 doctors in Ghana have tested positive for the virus. Professor Jacob Plange-Rhule, the Rector of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, and the Medical Superintendent of the Kwadaso SDA Hospital in Kumasi Dr Harry Owusu Boateng have died of covid-19.
Ghana is already faced with the shortage of doctors, nurses, and medical specialist and a spike in cases which will, in turn, cause them to be infected will greatly affect the delivery of quality health care and worsen the already poor health system.
Ghana has confirmed 18,134 COVID-19 cases with 13,550 recoveries and 117 deaths.
