Former President John Dramani Mahama, Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), says the next NDC government will resolve the challenges of premix fuel shortages by supplying it directly to fishers.

In a statement signed by Mr James Agyenim-Boateng, the Spokesman of the NDC campaign Team, the NDC alleged that the current government supplies premix fuel through “middlemen” which frustrates fishermen.

The statement further noted that, Mr Mahama gave the assurance during his engagement with various chiefs, organised groups, members and supporters of the NDC at Old Chantan, Bomoden, Damanko, Siibi and Kpassa as part of his three-day tour of the Oti Region.

He said a new NDC government would ensure easy acquisition and supply of fishing inputs such as outboard motors and fishing nets on credit to fishers to minimize their financial burdens.

Mr Mahama also announced the setting up of farmer’s mechanization centres across all districts in order to facilitate the work of farmers; “So if you are a farmer and you want to weed your farm, you will go to the farmers’ service centre and the machine will come and weed for you”.

He further explained that, “the farmer will only pay for the cost of the service after harvesting is over and the produce marketed.”

The Former President stressed that the general hardship in the country is as a result of the mismanagement of the economy by the government, adding that, the next NDC administration would work hard to provide jobs and reduce the high cost of living in the country.
