A Ghanaian national has found himself behind bars less than a month after arriving in Scotland.

Michael Yartey came to Perth on January 25 as a result of his wife’s employment, however he found himself detained after assaulting her earlier this week.

Perth Sheriff Court heard that the 48-year-old has no alternative address and a sheriff ruled that he had no option but to remand him.

Yartey admitted acting in a threatening and abusive manner and assaulting his wife at an address in Perth’s Cedar Drive on Tuesday.

The sentence was deferred until March 25.
