ACCRA, Ghana – Wednesday, June 17, 2020/ https://africanpostonline.com/—Ghanaians react to waakye packaged in a glass jar. Usually, Waakye vendors wrap the food in large leaves (katemfe leaves) or package it in a takeaway bag or plastic bowls.
Many people are not in favour of waakye packaged in a glass jar. Some believe the beans will spoil early and will not taste well. Others put into consideration the environment. However, some believe it is innovative and well packaged.
Ghanaians don’t joke with waakye and any slit change to the food attract hostility from all angels.
Waakye is one of the most common Ghanaian food eaten across the country and sold almost everywhere. The delicious food, made with rice and beans combination is healthy and nutritious.
Waakye is associated with Northern Ghana, and it’s an open secret that many Ghanaians prefer waakye from street vendors or specific renowned waakye sellers.
Fried plantain, spaghetti, gari and salad are the most common accessories to waakye. The proteins added can be beef, mutton, chicken, fish and egg. The tasty rice and beans go with tomatoes stew and shito.
Maybe it is covid-19 innovation, but I also prefer Waakye wrapped in large katemfe leaves. Waakye is a big deal and whichever one you choose, enjoy this tasty food.
