GHANA- Thursday, July 30, 2020/ https://africanpostonline.com/– Following the government’s promise to ensure quality and accessible education to Ghanaians, the government has acquired 100 buses for some selected Senior High Schools and says that some 250 more buses are on the way.

The ceremony which was held today was spearheaded by the Vice President. Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as he presented the buses to heads of Senior High Schools in the Ahafo, North East, Savannah, Northern, Upper East, Upper West, Bono, Bono West, Oti and Ahafo regions.

Some SHS received buses in 2016, hence they were not included in this year’s distribution.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Bawumia said that the contribution was to enhance effective delivery of education in the coutry.

“The President believes that the significant educational reforms that his government has rolled out since 2017 will come to naught if we do not provide the necessary logistical support for our schools to run effectively as they deliver their mandate for the Ghanaian child. Our schools have various challenges in the discharge of their administrative functions, and these vehicles, I am sure, will go a long way to help address some of these challenges”, he explained.

He further stated that plans are underway to address infrastructural problems in schools.

“We are already addressing the issue of infrastructure, with massive infrastructure projects in all schools across country, with even more ongoing, in fulfilment of our pledge to make education accessible to all,” he said.

He added that “in the past, vehicles were procured by the Ministry of Education without any plan of how or when to pay for it. This often put a great deal of strain on vendors and left the Ministry wallowing in debt. I am happy to emphasize the point that these vehicles have been fully paid for. That is competence and good management. I commend the Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, for his stewardship at the Ministry. I also commend the Minister of Finance for his understanding and support.”

Speaking at the event the Vice president Dr Mahamudu Bawumia said that “it’s the expectation of government that these vehicles will go a long way to promote quality supervision in our schools to ensure improved learning outcomes”.
