High Court nullifies election of University of Education Pro-Vice-Chancellor

GHANA- Monday, July 27, 2020,/ https://africanpostonline.com/— The Winneba High Court has nullified the election of Professor Andy Ofori-Birikorang as Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW).

Prof. Andy Ofori-Birikorang who was the Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Communication Studies was elected in November 2019 to serve as Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University with the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni.

Before his election, the University had been without a Pro- Vice Chancellor since 2018.

The Winneba High Court on Tuesday 18th November ruled out Dr. Frimpong Duku’s last application to stop the election process hence gave way for the UEW to hold the election on Thursday, November 21, 2019.

The Vice Chancellor nominated three persons to contest for the election; Prof. Yaw Ameyaw, the director in charge of quality assurance at the university, Prof. Dominic Mensah who heads the Institute for Teacher Education and Continuing Professional Development at the University and Professor Andy Ofori-Birikorang.

In a new development, the High Court under justice Aboagye Tandoh reached a decision that the Vice-Chancellor, Rev Fr Professor Anthony Afful-Broni did not have the rights under the statutes of the University to nominate the three persons for the role as Pro-Vice-Chancellor.

The High Court further ordered the University to organise another election to elect a new Pro-Vice-Chancellor for the University.
