The high priestess who accused 90-year-old, Akua Denteh of being a witch and subsequently led a mob to lynch the old woman to death, has been arrested by the police.

Sirina Fatima, was arrested in her hideout at Yeji in the Brong Ahafo region.

In a viral video recorded on the incident, the deceased, Akua Denteh was slapped, kicked and flogged after the traditional priestess accessed her of being a witch.

Speaking with Joynews, the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Enoch Adutwum Bediako said the son of the deceased, Mahama Salami reported the incidentto the Police around 4pm after his sister called him over to the scene of the incident.

According to the Police Commander, the old Akua Denteh became unconscious after she beaten severely by her assailants. She passed on before she could get medical help. He also added that an inspection conducted on the body revealed a cut on the forehead and bruises on the right arm.

The Police says it will transfer the suspect, Sirina Fatima to Damongo for further investigations into the matter. The chief of Kafaba, Zackaria Yahata, was initially arrested by the police for his alleged involvement in the gruesome murder of Akua Denteh.

Also, five other persons namely, Haruna Aness – 34, Issifa Tanko- 35, Shaibu Muntala – 29, Sulemana Ali -35 and Issifa Zakyibo -32, who admitted of being invited by the priestess to where the incident occurred were also arrested by the police.

Meanwhile, one of the suspects who allegedly played a role in the lynching was yesterday remanded by the Bole Magistrate Court. In her first appearance presided over by Prince Cudjo, Latifa Bumaye, 25, was asked to reappear on August 20, 2020.

The incident has received wide condemnation by Ghanaians and various stakeholders in the country.
