Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool’s manager has made it clear that Liverpool has no chance of signing the Argentine wizard, Lionel Messi but he has admitted that he would a great addition to the Premier League.
Since Messi expressed his desire to seek greener pastures elsewhere after he has spent 20 years playing for the Spanish side, Barcelona, several European giants have expressed interest in signing the Six-time Ballon d’Or winner. But currently, it seems Manchester City has the upper-hand in this race due to Pep Guardiola’s pleasant relationship he had (and still has) with Messi during his time as Barcelona’s Manager.
Klopp for Liverpool has clearly discounted the chances of Liverpool in the race of the greatest player of all time due to the financial demands behind the acquisition of this player. When asked of his interest in the player he said, “Who doesn’t want Messi in their team?”. “But no chance. The numbers are absolutely not for us, so we don’t even have to start thinking about it! It is clear, there is no chance”.
Liverpool and Manchester City have been rivals in the top flight in the last season with City being their predecessors as titleholders and the prospect of a reunion between Messi and Guardiola improves the chance of the Manchester City side in acquiring him; something that according to Klopp will help Manchester City and make a tougher opponent to beat should they be able to sign.
Liverpool continues with their pre-season preparation towards their Community Shield match against FA Cup winners, Arsenal on Saturday. Klopp so far has not said anything about transfer activity on his part before the closure of the transfer windows of the Premier.
“Numbers in the squad make sense, we have a big squad at the moment with a lot of young boys, and the size of the squad is okay”, he said. “I’m happy with what we have but we look constantly for improvement, internally too”.
