The country’s premier league has been on hold for close to four months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In light of this, Head of Communications for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum says that the premier league cannot resume without mandatory testing for all players.

Speaking to GTV Sports Plus, Mr. Twum stated that “a number of scenarios have been considered; obviously we cannot play without testing the players. The CAF medical team issued a statement sent to all member associations that before football begins, testing has become mandatory”.

He further stated that with the resumption of the Ghana Premier League about to begin in October 2020, and in line with COVID-19 protocols, the Government’s Covid-19 advisory team is “in touch with the FA and the medical team of the football associations is looking at a few possibilities or options. So testing the players is going to happen for both men and women”.

The Ghana Premier League, amongst other football leagues is aimed at reviving the love Ghanaians have for local football.

This is in line with the current GFA president, Kurt Okraku’s “bring back the love” campaign.

Registration of players would however commence from  August 15, 2020 to October 31, 2020.

Meanwhile The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has postponed their verdict on the case between Wilfred Osei ‘Palmer’ and the GFA.
