Ghanaian unique and skilful artist Kofi Gamamiwosror Agorsor features in many local and international art auctions and exhibitions including the 24th Edition of the Contemporary’s Modern and Arthouse Art Auction which took place online from June 9 – 15, 2020.
He uses bold and vibrant colours, to portray the daily lives of people in a modernizing Ghana, often in an upbeat and humorous way. His sculptures are an embodiment of spontaneous orderliness.
His eye-cathing masterpiece that would sell for millions of dollars expresses curiosity, skills, details and vibrant colours.
One would have to crack his or her brains to understand the deeper meaning of his work even though they are so clear to the eyes, portraying a particular object or event.
He has travelled across the world showcasing his masterpiece at exhibitions including “3+3: 3 Artist from Denmark, 3 Artists from Ghana”; “Agorsor in Lusaka”, Alliance Francaise, Zambia (2010); “Pause the Pulse – The Portrait of Accra”; “World Class Contemporary Paintings”, The Africa Center, London, UK (2010); FIFA Fineart, South Africa (2010); “World Class Contemporary Paintings, The Hayloft Courtyards, London, UK (2009), few to mention.
Kofi Gamamiwosror Agorsor was born in the Volta region of Ghana in 1970. After school, he studied architecture but two years later he realized his true passion was to pursue his love of art and he decided to study at Accra Ankles College of Art where he obtained his degree in 1993.
He is married to Nyornuwofia Agorsor with children, Agorsor works predominantly in painting and sculpture but also a talented musician.
His music is a great source of inspiration as well and his art, often reflecting the animated dynamics of the group. Despite huge success with exhibitions on the African continent as well as internationally, Agorsor remains humble.
Agorsor is also a member of Agorsor Afro Band lead by Nyornuwofia Agorsor. They perform their compositions at many events both locally and internationally.
An engagement with his musical work, just like his artwork is very rewarding. It often reflects the energetic subtleties of the collective musicians he has worked with over time.
He spends a lot of time in the recording studio with his group. He uses bold vibrant colours to reveal the daily lives of people in a modernizing Ghana, often in an upbeat and humorous way.
Recently he has been spending a lot of time in the recording studio with his band. Inspired by both the natural and supernatural worlds, Agorsor’s art and music considerably inspire the public.
He contributes to his country as a humanitarian missionary and much of his profits made from his art and music is donated to local children’s homes.
Amidst the success of his local and international exhibition, Agorsor remains a humble contributor to local children’s homes in Ghana.
” My work is about love and affection, about simple everyday situations like relationships, music, religion. Some people say I paint as a European or American interpreting African life. Some say my work is universal. “I feel very universal“.
“I am always happy as an artist, as it has made me see both physical and spiritual”. He stated.
