GHANA- As Ghanaians battle plastic pollution, Madam Joana Ama Arthur, CEO of MPBS Papers has chosen to make paper bags from banana and plantain stems as well as corn husk. 

MPBS Papers, a business she started two years ago in 2019, Madam Arthur is making a profit and adding value to agriculture waste. She sells her beautiful paper bags from Ghc2- Ghc3 and also customises them for events.

Her creative business done in her house contributes greatly to reducing the use of plastic bags in Ghana and to reduce plastic pollution affection the country. The plantain, banana and corn husks are converted into pulp for making the paper.

It is noted that millions of tons of plastic wastes are generated in Ghana annually. However, only about 2 to 5% are processed or recycled.

She captioned one of her post on Instagram, “We are making it from scratch. Those banana and plantain stems do not have to go to waste. We are making them into durable papers. They can be used for bags, boxes etc. Anything paper we got you”.
