Security Analyst Dr Vladimir Antwi Danso says that upholding the statutes of the constitution is mandatory if the country wants to hold free and fair elections, as he opines that the constitution has lost its essence.

In an interaction on an evening program on Radio Univers yesterday, he highlighted that “the only way elections will be free from this kind of insecurity issues will be when we stamp our feet on the constitution and on institutions. We don’t respect our institutions. EC wants to do it its work and instead of us challenging them on the constitutionality of what they want to do we say we’ll beat them. Now the constitution is there and nobody obeys them.”

He called on Ghanaians to exhibit discipline in all activities and to respect the constitution in order to achieve the goal.

He was expressing his thoughts on the need of the country to strive for peace heading into the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections.
He further explained that to achieve free and fair elections, security agencies and state institutions must be free from political and other external influence.

“Going forward the institutions of state must be given free hands to do what they do. If we can allow institutions of state to work, if the politicians can be made to understand that they are also before the law equal to me…unless we do that we are going nowhere”, he said.
Meanwhile Executive Director of the Bureau of National Safety, Nana Yaw Akwada has cautioned that some persons could take advantage to the election season to wreak havoc in the country.

“We have the phenomena of vigilantism in Ghana which we are seeking to contain; the police have not done too good a job with that one. We are one of the safe haven and transnational elements usually and rogue businesses usually will seek to use national elections as catalysts to ferment chaos because these transnational rogue elements usually benefit when states become ungovernable”.
