The National Chairman of the Progressive People’s Party(PPP), Nana Ofori Owusu has announced that his party is set to elect its presidential candidate for the 2020 elections on Saturday at the Coconut Grove Regency Hotel in Accra.

He added that the party’s manifesto will be released the next Saturday September,  19th.  According to Nana Ofori Owusu, their manifesto would not be compiled in a book but would be a 12-point policy statement on critical sector of the Ghanaian society.

“Ghana’s constitution promotes multiparty democracy and as much as people want it to be a two horse race, it is not” Nana Ofori Owusu said.

Last Friday, the General Secretary of the party, Paa Kow Ackon, disclosed the contest for the flagbearer position will have only one candidate. This follows the decision of the other contender, William Doworkpor, to pull out of the race, for Brigitte Dzogbenuku.

Founder and two-time flagbearer of the PPP, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, announced last month that he will not contest this year’s election due to ill-health and it has become necessary for someone to succeed him.

The Progressive People’s Party pulled a little over 100,000 votes in the 2016 Presidential and Parliamentary elections representing 1 percent.
