GHANA- Nana Akufo Addo this morning was vaccinated against covid-19 at 37 Military Hospital. The First Lady, Rebecca Akufo was also vaccinated.
The event was televised on live television to demonstrated “leadership by example” to Ghanaians and to entreat Ghanaians to take the vaccines against the alleged propaganda that the vaccine is unsafe.
The President was the first to receive the first dose of the 600,000 Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine brought to Ghana on 24th February 2021 from the Covax facility.
According to the President, Ghana is the first country in the world to receive vaccines from the COVAX facility.
The Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine approved by the Food and Drugs Board is said to protect one from the deadly coronavirus. The vaccine is made by the Serum Institute of India (Coveshield) and is the first consignment of vaccines acquired through the covid19 vaccine global access facility (COVAX) which Ghana among over 92 countries has signed unto.
However, some people are not convinced of its efficacy and safety amid conspiracy theories, hence, the campaign to get people to understand the need to be vaccinated to stop the coronavirus.
“I know there are still some who continue to express doubts about the vaccine, others have expressed reservations about its efficacy, with some taking sides with conspiracy theorists who believe the vaccine has been created to wipe out the African race.
“This is far from the truth. As your President, I want to assure you that the vaccine is safe,” the President assured Ghanaians.
