Stranded Ghanaians in London to be evacuated

GHANA- Tuesday, July 14, 2020,/ https://africanpostonline.com/ The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of Ghana has announced that it has made arrangements to evacuate Ghanaians stranded in London due to the coronavirus.

In a notice served by the Ghana High Commission in London, it was stated that the move was in collaboration with Emirates Airlines to transport the Ghanaians home.

According to the notice, the flight is scheduled “to depart Dubai at 9:30hrs on Friday, 17th July 2020 arriving in Accra at 13:35hrs.”

It, however, cautioned that persons who wish to take advantage of the flight are to make reservations to enable them to arrive in good time to join the flight in Dubai at the scheduled date and time for the flight to Accra.

All persons would also bear the cost of the flight and the two-week mandatory quarantine.

“All passengers are also to note that they will cover the cost of the mandatory 14-day quarantine with a possible extension to 21 days depending on individual cases”, the statement contained.

This comes on the back of a travel ban imposed in Ghana on March 22, 2020, since the country recorded its first coronavirus case.

Due to covid-19, many countries have closed their borders to prevent the spread of the virus in their country. These development has affected a lot of Ghanaians and businesses. 

Some countries like Rwanda are beginning to open their borders but with extreme caution and health and safety measures as others like Ghana with increasing Covid-19 cases are evacuate their stranded citizens back home.
