When I heard and watched videos of COVID-19, I went into a state of shock and panic.
I was virtually shattered especially when Ghana confirmed two COVID-19 cases. I couldn’t keep calm and sleep well for a week.
I was wild awake imagining what COVID-19 is it all about without finding answers.
I decided to limit my movement to read more on COVID-19.
My level of fear worsens when I watched videos of the sick and the deceased.
Because of fear and sleepless night, I started having body aches and headaches.
Then the worse happened! I had neck pain and sore throat caused by an allergy.
I was instantly fully convinced that I contracted COVID-19 although I wasn’t exposed.
I was so engulfed with fear that I could feel my whole body tensed and rigid.
I was at war with COVID-19 both mentally and physically but incorrectly.
It was even worse when my friend said she washes her fruits with soap. I laughed hysterically and realized that I was not the only one panicking.
After two weeks, I was tired of all the pain and exhaustion of fear I was putting myself through.
I reminded myself that fear is deadly and I am not sick of COVID. Relax, be calm and live are words I told myself.
From that moment, I was able to sleep profoundly, go to the bank and the market to buy goods and to my siblings, I haven’t seen in months.
I wash my hands, sanitize regularly and also wear my mask anytime I step out.
I have never experienced fear in my life before, and this experience has taught me a lot. Fear can make you sick. I was only able to overcome my fear with courage and a positive mindset.
I feel better and if you are panicking, try changing your mind, and focus on preventive measures.
