The Gambia seeks a transparent and credible investigation into the killing of a diplomat's son by police in the US

ACCRA, Ghana – Thursday, June 4, 2020/ https://africanpostonline.com/—The Gambia has called for an investigation into the shooting and death of a diplomat’s son in Snellville, Georgia.

The Gambian foreign affairs ministry on Thursday said they have asked the Gambian Embassy in Washington to “engage the relevant U.S. authorities including the State Department, to seek a transparent, credible and objective investigation in the matter.”

According to the statement, police officers tried to pull Sisay over for a vehicle tag violation. He was chased and when he eventually stopped and was asked to show his hand, he refused and pointed a handgun at the police, who fired back. Sisay was pronounced dead at the scene, the GBI said.

The officer involved in the shooting and the death of Sisay is to be investigated according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).

Momodou Lamin Sisay was 39 and the son of Lare Sisay, a Gambian diplomat who also worked for the UN Development Programme.

The US is currently protesting the killing of George Floyd and the systematic racism in the country against blacks. The Protest which started in Minnesota has spread to all US states and other countries like Ireland, London, New Zealand, and France.

African leaders including the Chairman of the African Union have issued statements calling for the US to end racism against blacks as well as police brutality and killings of blacks.
