The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in a press release has suspended WASSCE (SC) 2020 until further notice due to the coronavirus pandemic.
According to WAEC, the drastic measures put in place by the Government of Ghana is essential in controlling and inhibiting the spread of the novel coronavirus.
The Ghana Health Service today confirmed five (5) new coronavirus cases bringing the total number of coronavirus cases to 16. All five new reported cases are said to be in the Greater Accra Region.
The Teacher Unions earlier on called the Government to suspend the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) as teachers and students remained at risk.
From March 16, all Universities, Senior High Schools and basic schools have been closed, a directive by the President, Nana Akufo-Addo in a measure to curb the coronavirus in Ghana.
However, the President did not suspend the BECE and WASSCE exams and allowed the candidates to attend school to prepare for the final exams.
