Former President John Mahama says that Ghana’s economy under the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) is only working for a select few in the country.

Speaking at the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) manifesto launch, the flagbearer of the party vowed to “fix the economy” to benefit every Ghanaian should he be voted into office in the ensuing December polls.

“Ghana’s economy is not working for the people, it is working for only a few. We will fix the economy and make it work for all Ghanaians. We will fight the disastrous effect of the poor economic performance of this government.”

In his address, the former President also promised to create equal opportunities for Ghanaian businesses and stressed on the need for the creation of a favourable environment which will Ghanaian businesses to flourish.

 “We will put an end to the vindictive targeting and collapsing of Ghanaian businesses. We have done this before. We have ensured the longest sustained period of single-digit inflation.”

“We must put Ghanaian businesses at the centre of economic growth. We must create equal opportunities for all Ghanaians businesses. It is only when Ghanaian businesses thrive that our economy thrives as well. It is time for renewal and coming together. It is time to end intolerance and social discrimination. It is time to end the repression of the media.”

Mr Mahama further noted that upcoming elections is a mission to rescue Ghana from the abyss it is fast sinking.

 “It is critical we rescue Ghana from the abyss to which it is sinking…the 2020 elections will be an election of destiny. It will be about the very soul of a new Ghana. The 2020 elections will be about our children and the unborn generation.”

At the same event, Minority Leader in Parliament, Honourable Haruna Iddrisu indicated that a new NDC government will prioritize corruption and investigate all corruption scandals which have been swept under the carpet by the current administration.

 “John Dramani Mahama promises to once again make corruption a high-risk activity. He will sting corruption like the scorpion will bite you when you are caught with it.”

“The good people of Ghana are sure that John Dramani Mahama will find answers to the unanswered question of corruption whether it is BOST, whether it is missing excavators or whether it is Kroll Associates. Public officials…who loot the public purse will be punished accordingly,” he assured.
