5,530 COVID-19 cases: Government thinking of jailing people who will not wear face mask for three months

ACCRA, Ghana – Thursday, May 14, 2020/ https://africanpostonline.com/Ghana’s COVID-19 cases have reached 5,530 with 674 recoveries. There is an increment of 122 cases. However, COVID -19 deaths remain at 24.

According to the Ghana Health Service (GHS), five COVID-19 patients are still critically ill but are not on ventilators.

Dr Sarkodie said Greater Accra Region records 57 new cases, 62 in the Ashanti Region, two in the Central Region and one in the Western North Region.

Face mask 

The Minister of Information, Mr Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah hint of the government contemplating legal options to enforce face mask-wearing to curb the spread of the virus. Recalcitrant people who would not adhere to the preventive protocols could face a jail term of up to three months.

He said, “there are also legal options that are also being considered to ensure stricter enforcement of personal preventive etiquette including the wearing of mask.” “Hopefully those legal options should be announced soon,” he added.
