The German football giants, Bayern Munich is slated to face French football club, Lyon in the last semi-finals match of the UEFA Champions League, this evening at 7 pm.
Bayern played a stunning game against Barca winning against them with 8 goals and Lyon has also defeated the Italian champions, Juventus and Manchester City to earn their spot in the semi-finals and so this game promises to be full of surprises.
“Less than 100% will not be enough,” said Flick, the coach of Bayern. “The game starts from scratch. My team is focused. We have set big goals. But it is a game starting at 0-0 and we have to play with the same intensity as against Barca”. Players to look out for on the Bayern side include Thomas Muller and Philippe Coutinho who both scored in their match against Barca.
Not forgetting Robert Lewandoski, who is just three goals of the record set by Juventus’, Christiano Ronaldo. Benjamin Pavard is back from his ankle injury to strengthen the Bayern defence.
“Benjamin has worked hard in the past days and we are all happy that he is here,” said Flick. “We will wait for the final training session tonight and see. He is not an option to start but an option to be in the squad.”
The German champions are looking to complete a trophy treble this season under Flick. And they look the stronger side between the two teams with nine wins of Champions League games under their belt and an aggregate score of 39-8.
The underdogs in the upcoming game, Lyon has surprised us all with feats they have pulled to reach the semi-finals, a contrast to the domestic campaign they finished this seasons Ligue 1. They eliminated Juventus, champions of Seria A and the English Premier League runner-up, Manchester City.
Garcia, who replaced Sylvinho as manager two months into the season, has fashioned a side that is tough to beat and lethal on the counter, thanks to the pace and trickery of forwarding duo Moussa Dembele and Memphis Depay.
Coach Garcia replaced Sylvinho as manager of the side and have hammered the team into a sturdy but quick side who are able to defend their goal and score with very lethal counterattacks. His side can count on Moussa Dembele and Memphis Depay, who have 37 goals between them in all competitions, to convert chances into goals.
Garcia is well aware of the threat posed by Bayern but believes stats will count for nothing on Wednesday. “City scored more than 100 goals in the Premier League, so if we just look at the stats, we can just watch the game at the hotel and Bayern can play alone,” said Garcia. “They don’t have a lot of weak points but no team are perfect”. “We might be the underdogs but we beat big teams to get there and others may start taking us seriously. “Maybe we’re not a big mountain to climb but sometimes just a little pebble in your shoe can prevent you from climbing that little mountain.”
