Running mate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Professor Naana Jane Opoku- Agyemang has called for support for youth innovation in Ghana.
According to her when helping to push innovation of the youth would enhance their development.
She was speaking in an engagement with the youth in accordance with this year’s International Youth Day celebration dubbed ‘A Conversation with Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang’.
This year’s celebration was under the theme “Youth engagement for global action”.
Speaking at the event she said that “I am so impressed by the many things the youth is doing. Today through the KNUST we have a rapid diagnostic testing kit for 2019 and this has been developed by the youth. These are the things we must patronize, It is not about giving them funding; it’s about helping them to raise their own funds by scaling up their own developments so that they can get the money”.
She said that patronizing youth innovations is a way to encourage and develop them.
“we need to learn to patronise our own creations; that is the way forward especially creations that have come up from our young starters. How else do we give them encouragement if they go through the process and create something…that item should be turned into some profit. We must set up a good research fund”.
Meanwhile in commemorating this year’s celebration, flagbearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama in his well wishing message to the youth of Ghana said that “your burning entrepreneurial spirit and initiative are exemplary even in these difficult times.
We shall harness the enormous innovative & creative talents and also magnify youth participation in the governance and decision-making of our country.
The major plank of my second coming as President is to deliver jobs to our youth. If we do not do this urgently, we have a time bomb ticking away.
Everything, every policy, and every sector will be focused on creating jobs for young people. This is anchored in our US$10bn #TheBigPush and #1millionJobs Plans”.
I am passionate about pushing accountability and transparency through my writing.
