The Ghana Education Service confirms the demise of final year Meghis student

GHANA- Sunday, July 19, 2020,/ https://africanpostonline.com/ The Ghana Education Service has confirmed the death of a final year General Arts student of the Methodist Girls Senior High School (MEGHIS) located at Mamfe, Akuapim in the Eastern Region.

In a communique released today, July 19, 2020, and signed by the PRO of GES Cassandra Twum Ampofo, it was stated that the student, Ms Cindy Aku Sika Addo passed away at the Koforidua Regional Hospital on Friday, July 17, 2020 after she was transferred from the Tetteh Quarshie Hospital at Mampong.

Cindy is said to have been rushed to the hospital on Thursday, July 16, 2020, at 11 pm “when her friends detected that she was not well”.

The GES further assured “the family of support in giving a befitting burial to the deceased”.

A report given by Power FM on Thursday said the the school was engulfed with smoke from burning refuse.

According to the report, about 20 students fainted and were rushed to the hospital due to the severity of the smoke; Cindy, a part of them.

“My daughter called me this morning with tears and requested that I pick her up due to her condition and the smokiness of the school.”her father said in an interview with Power FM.

The headmistress of the school however blamed her death on malaria Cindy suffered the night before the smoke incident.

Cindy adds up to make in total 3 students who have lost their lives upon return to school to complete their final exams.  21-year-old Nathaniel Yankey, a final year student of Gwiraman Senior High School in the Western Region and a final year student of the KNUST SHS.

Meanwhile, there have been calls to the government to shut down schools due to the increase in covid-19 cases in Senior High schools.

Government says that it is in control of the situation.
