Sisters Keepers Association condemn the lynching of a 60-year-old woman

A group calling itself the Sisters Keepers Association has condemned the lynching of a 60-year-old woman in the Savannah region.

The woman who has been identified as Meri Ibrahim was assaulted by five people, including the chief of the town who claimed she was a witch.

The suspects were arrested yesterday August 30, 2020 in Sumpini- Damongo in the Savannah region.

The woman is reported to have been attacked with sticks and stones.

In light of this the SKA has expressed its displeasure with the act.

In a press release signed by the Head of Communications for the group Abena Opokua Ahweneé, it stated that the group “highly condemns the inhumane treatment meted out to the woman and therefore call on necessary law enforcement agencies to as a matter of urgency investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to book”.

The Association added that awareness about diseases that come with old age should be created in order to enhance relations with the elderly.

“The Association wishes to bring to the notice of the public that Alzheimers/ Dementia is a condition among the elderly therefore the need to have enough knowledge about this disease to inform our relationship with them in these times”, the statement contained.

An earlier incident was recorded in July this year when a 90 year old woman identified as Akua Denteh was lynched to death in Kafaba in the Savannah region.

The woman was said to have been accused of being a witch by a soothsayer. Six persons have since been in police custody including the soothsayer in alliance with the crime.
